This blog is intended to help people who are undecided about whether or not to adopt a retired greyhound. Until very recently, we were undecided. And then we met Poppy.

We adopted her from the Retired Greyhound Trust sponsored Dunrunnin Rehoming Kennels, at Brands Hatch, in Kent.

We’re still finding things out every day about having a dog and, more importantly, about the specific needs of a greyhound. (They are like other dogs, only just a little bit more special. Not that I am biased at all…) I thought that if we share our experience, and answer some of the questions I certainly had in my mind about adopting a greyhound, it may help others make a decision. At the very least, you will have some insight into what to expect. I will be as honest as possible about how we get on!

Delighted that Charlie (11) and Gail (8) made such a good impression in The Plough that you have adopted Poppy. We are completely sold on greys having never been dog owners before. We learnt on our first one (a big brindle, Rocky) who was so good natured and patient with us and wrapped himself round our heart.

  2. Thank you! Peter was so helpful when we first met him, Gail & Charlie. Gail stole my heart and a week later we met Poppy! Hope to see you both on a local walk soon!
